North Rhine-Westphalia: Almost 5900 income millionaires in North Rhine-Westphalia

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - "I would like to be a millionaire" once sang the princes - in North Rhine-Westphalia four years ago exactly 5847 taxpayers could have reported on their experiences. In 2018, as many taxpayers had at least income of over one million euros, as the State Statistical Office announced on Thursday. There are no more recent figures. The reason: Only after all tax assessments had been completed could the tax offices make the anonymized tax data available to the statisticians. It should be noted that married couples who are taxed together are included in the statistics as a single taxpayer. The total number of income millionaires was 174 more than the previous year.

The country's two largest cities, Düsseldorf and Cologne, had the most income millionaires in 2018. 572 cases were counted in the state capital and 556 in Cologne. The Rhein-Kreis Neuss was third with 226 millionaires.

Nationwide, there were an average of 3.3 millionaires for every 10,000 inhabitants. Of all 396 towns and communities in North Rhine-Westphalia, Meerbusch (Rhein-Kreis Neuss) had the highest density of millionaires with 20.5 per 10,000 inhabitants. Möhnesee (Soest district) followed in second place with 10.3, Düsseldorf in third place with 9.2. In around 90 municipalities there was not a single income millionaire.
