North Rhine-Westphalia: Arrest after arson attack on the Jewish cemetery in Cologne

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - Almost a month after an arson attack on a Jewish cemetery in Cologne, the police arrested a suspect. The Cologne police said on Wednesday that it was a 46-year-old homeless man from the Neuss area, whom a witness recognized. He is said to have thrown an incendiary device against a cemetery building. A witness managed to put out the flames with a bucket of water.

On Wednesday, the suspect appeared again at the cemetery and threw stones at the facade, it said. The witness alerted the police and held the stone thrower down until emergency services arrived. His motive is unclear. He is now to be brought before a magistrate.
