North Rhine-Westphalia: ATM blown up: building badly damaged

Schermbeck (dpa / lnw) - An ATM was blown up in Schermbeck (Wesel district) on Wednesday night. The facade of the bank building, in which two apartments are located, was so badly damaged that the residents left the house as a precaution, as the Wesel district police announced on Wednesday morning. Two strangers are said to have gotten into a waiting, dark limousine, which drove away at high speed in the direction of federal highway 58. Witnesses had told the police of two consecutive explosions.

The search was initially unsuccessful. Whether and how much money was stolen was initially just as unclear as the amount of damage. Police are investigating and are appealing for information from potential witnesses.
