North Rhine-Westphalia: ATM blown up: building badly damaged

Mönchengladbach (dpa / lnw) - Unknown persons blew up an ATM in a savings bank branch in Mönchengladbach on Wednesday night. The branch building was significantly damaged, as a police spokesman in Mönchengladbach announced on Wednesday morning. Nobody was hurt. Residents on the upper floor can continue to stay in their apartments after an examination by a structural engineer, it said. There was therefore no danger of collapse.

Several residents reportedly heard detonations and saw smoke in the bank branch. In addition, a fleeing dark SUV and several unknown persons were observed at the crime scene. It was initially unclear whether the perpetrators stole money. There had already been a blast in the same branch in the Hardt district in December 2021. At that time, the perpetrators had failed in their attempt to get money.
