North Rhine-Westphalia: Attack on a couple: Two suspects are free again

Rheda-Wiedenbrück (dpa / lnw) - After the attack on a couple in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, two of the three alleged perpetrators are free again. The investigators continue to assume that the 16-year-old and the 42-year-old were in some way involved in the crime. The urgent suspicion of attempted killing had not been substantiated with them, they were released from custody on Tuesday evening, the police and public prosecutor said on Wednesday.

The third suspect, a 29-year-old man, has been in custody since Monday on suspicion of attempted manslaughter. The couple is said to have been attacked by the three Germans on Sunday. According to the investigators, the 35-year-old and the 37-year-old suffered serious injuries from "blunt force", and the man was even assumed to be life-threatening at times. According to police, the background to the incident on Sunday was a dispute between the three men and the couple about "financial interests".

The 29-year-old was arrested at the scene of the crime - a meadow in Rheda-Wiedenbrück (Gütersloh district). The other two suspects only came to the attention of investigators later and were temporarily in police custody.
