North Rhine-Westphalia: attempted ATM demolitions: perpetrators fled

Cologne/Bornheim (dpa/lnw) - Unknown persons tried in vain on Tuesday night in Cologne and Bornheim (Rhein-Sieg-Kreis) to steal money from two automated teller machines. Around midnight, the perpetrators planted an explosive device in the Lindenthal district of Cologne, which, however, did not ignite, the police said. The perpetrators fled in a vehicle.

About three hours later, residents in Bornheim reported another ATM blast. Two people fled after the crime on a two-wheeler. The perpetrators could therefore make no loot. However, the ATM was completely destroyed. The police could not initially say whether the two acts were related.
