North Rhine-Westphalia: Autobahn 1 south of Münster was completely closed for three days

Ascheberg (dpa / lnw) - Motorists heading north must be prepared for longer driving times from Friday evening from 10 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m. For the three-lane expansion of the A1 (Cologne-Bremen) between the Kamener Kreuz and Münster, eight bridge sections each weighing 43 tons will be placed this weekend. The section between Münster-Hiltrup and Ascheberg will be closed in both directions for the work, according to the federal Autobahn GmbH responsible for the construction work.

Motorists and heavy goods traffic should avoid the A1 south of Münster on the way to and from northern Germany. Alternatives are the Autobahn 2 (Oberhausen-Hannover), 31 (Bottrop-Emden) or 43 (Wuppertal-Münster).

The reconstruction of the Bönneweg bridge is necessary for the three-lane expansion of the A1. Autobahn GmbH is investing around 93 million euros in this section. The construction work should be completed by autumn 2027. The goal is three continuous lanes on the A1 north and south from Osnabrück in Lower Saxony to the Kamener Kreuz in North Rhine-Westphalia.
