Lüdenscheid (dpa / lnw) - The fire brigade went out on Monday for a large-scale operation in a family pool in Lüdenscheid because several young bathers complained of coughing and irritation of the respiratory tract. Six children and young people were taken to the hospital as a precaution, said the head of the Lüdenscheid fire department, Christopher Rehnert. But they were only slightly injured.
And it was soon possible to give the all-clear: chlorine gas or other gas could not be measured. It was initially unclear what caused the respiratory irritation.
The fire brigade was called to the pool on Monday afternoon with the information that chlorine gas may have escaped there, and almost ten people affected complained of symptoms. Ultimately, several other people were examined on site to be on the safe side.
According to the fire department, those affected were in an indoor area at the time. The alarm from the chlorine gas system - which triggers at a very low threshold - did not go off. There was also no maintenance work, said the fire department spokesman. "It was normal business." The bath was temporarily cleared, but bathing was allowed again after the inspection.
