North Rhine-Westphalia: Burnt out car with a corpse: the holder cannot be reached

Duisburg (dpa / lnw) - The mysterious case of a charred corpse in the driver's seat of a burned-out car in Duisburg is becoming increasingly strange. Near the Duisburg water ski facility, a walker encountered a puzzling scenario at Christmas: a few meters from the burned-out wreck was a second car that had obviously collided head-on with a tree.

Now the police announced on Wednesday that both cars belong to the same owner. He had still not been reached and the body was still not identified. A DNA comparison will take a while. The police did not rule out that the dead could be the owner of both cars.

A traffic accident team is busy evaluating the conspicuous tire tracks that were found on site. The event must have happened on the night of Christmas Day.

The police are still looking for witnesses who saw the vehicle fire or made other suspicious observations, such as conspicuous cars. There is no residential development at the site. It is also a dead end. "Investigations are in full swing and we are currently not ruling anything out," said a police spokeswoman.
