North Rhine-Westphalia: Carnivalists plan to start the session without conditions

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The Düsseldorf carnivalists want to start the fifth season on November 11 without pandemic conditions. Both the traditional "Hoppeditz awakening" at the town hall and the indoor events should be celebrated "as if nothing is," said the managing director of the Düsseldorf Carneval Committee (CC), Hans-Jürgen Tüllmann, on Tuesday. "The topic of Corona does not exist for us here and now," he emphasized.

After two years of cancellations due to the pandemic, we are optimistic about the coming session. "The Düsseldorf carnival is alive. We're still celebrating life," explained the President of the CC, Michael Laumen.

Personnel worries, the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine and the increased energy costs did not stop at the carnival either. However, especially in times like these, it is the task of the carnival participants to promote and cultivate community and community spirit, said Laumen.

Tickets for the royal couple's freestyle, the ARD television session on January 11 and the grandstand on Shrove Monday can be bought since Friday. Many tickets have already been sold, which speaks for a certain amount of pent-up demand on the part of the people.

Even if the price of beer has risen a little, the people of Düsseldorf should "forget the worries of everyday life for an hour or two" and celebrate carnival, demanded Laumen.
