North Rhine-Westphalia: Christmas tree prices stable: enough supply despite the drought

The prices for almost all consumer goods have only known one direction for months: upwards. Almost two months before Christmas there is now good news for consumers from the State Horticulture Association.

Oberhausen (dpa / lnw) - Despite the strong inflation, the prices for Christmas trees in North Rhine-Westphalia should remain stable this year. "As in the previous year, we are at a price range between 21 and 27 euros for the running meter of Nordmann fir," said a spokeswoman for the State Horticultural Association of North Rhine-Westphalia in Oberhausen. The plantings survived the extremely dry summer well, also thanks to the rains of the past few weeks. Thus, there are enough trees, said the spokeswoman.

In the previous year there had been a slight price increase due to higher wage and energy costs. The Nordmann fir is considered the most popular tree for the festival. In addition to the large growing area in the Sauerland, where around seven million Christmas trees are sold every year on around 18,000 hectares, there is also cultivation on the Lower Rhine. On Thursday (November 3rd), the association wants to present detailed market figures in a forestry operation in Rheurdt on the Lower Rhine. The first Christmas tree for 2022 will also be symbolically cut there.
