Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the case of facility-related vaccination requirements, the chairman of the NRW city council, Essen's mayor Thomas Kufen (CDU), calls for clarity about the future of the regulation soon. “The cities are demanding a quick decision from the state and federal government on how to proceed with the facility-related compulsory vaccination,” said Kufen of the “Rheinische Post” (Monday). Vaccination has been compulsory since March, for example in hospitals, medical practices and nursing homes. Anyone who is not vaccinated against the corona virus faces a fine of up to 2500 euros. An entry ban is also possible. As things stand at present, the regulation expires at the end of this year.
"The closer the end of the year approaches, the more questionable it is, for example, whether bans on entering employees are still appropriate," said Kufen. For people who are newly hired in the health and care sector, the obligation to vaccinate before starting work should remain in place. "This would increase the number of employees in these sensitive fields who are willing to protect themselves and others with new vaccines." This is important, because repeated vaccination will remain important in view of the future emergence of more dangerous virus variants.
