North Rhine-Westphalia: City of Detmold: outdoor pool water is no longer heated

Detmold (dpa / lnw) - The city of Detmold switches off the gas heating for the water in the pools in its outdoor pools. In this way, the municipality is making its contribution to securing gas reserves against the background of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine and the associated possible problems with heating in the winter months. The city announced on Tuesday.

Four outdoor pools are affected. "We cannot say exactly what effects this will have on the water temperature," explains Uwe Düker from the Sports and Pools team in the statement. If the summer stays the same as it is now, swimmers will continue to have pleasant bathing temperatures. "If it gets cold and rainy for a long time, we'll notice that in the swimming pools too."

The city asks the bathers for their understanding. The employees in the outdoor pools or the representatives of the clubs are not responsible for the decision. "If the federal government announces the alarm level of an emergency plan and we are clearly approaching a critical situation in winter, then we cannot simply continue with the normal agenda," said the city's first councillor, Miriam Mikus.
