North Rhine-Westphalia: Climate activists keep the Audimax of the university in Duisburg occupied

Duisburg (dpa / lnw) - Climate activists have been occupying a university building in Duisburg since Monday. After consultation with the university, the police let them do their thing for the time being and do not intervene. A group of around 50 to 60 young people wanted to draw attention to the climate crisis with the campaign, it said. The group calls itself "EndFossil Occupy! Duisburg".

After the first night and talks with lecturers, the students offered information events on Tuesday morning in the building where the Audimax and lecture halls are located. The lecturers had adapted several lectures to their ideas, the activists wrote on Twitter. How long the occupation of the university should last is still unclear.

The UN world climate conference COP27 is currently taking place in Egypt, at which representatives from around 200 countries are dealing with the fight against the climate crisis.
