North Rhine-Westphalia: cloudy start to the week in NRW: thunderstorms and showers expected

Essen (dpa / lnw) - For the people in North Rhine-Westphalia, the new week starts with thunderstorms, gusts and occasional showers. As reported by the German Weather Service (DWD), the sun will occasionally come out on Whit Monday, but it will remain cloudy with showers, brief thunderstorms and stormy gusts throughout the day. According to the DWD, the reason for this is a flow of cool sea air that is carried into the country on the southern flank of a low over the North Sea.

Temperatures will reach highs of 19 to 23 degrees on Monday. In the north-west, a moderate and, with showers, fresh and strong gusty south-west wind is to be expected. Most of the night there is no precipitation. Only in the north can it rain locally. It cools down to 13 to 10 degrees, in the higher areas down to 8 degrees.

According to the DWD, Tuesday will continue to be cloudy to heavily overcast. Again individual showers are possible, in the southwest even showery rain in places. In the afternoon and evening, the DWD expects brief thunderstorms and gusts of wind. The daily high for Tuesday is around 21 degrees.

Even on Wednesday there is still no prospect of a return to summer temperatures. It is expected to remain increasingly cloudy with showery rain from the west.
