North Rhine-Westphalia: cocaine smuggled: district court sentenced drug gang

Aachen (dpa / lnw) - The regional court in Aachen sentenced four members of a gang of drug smugglers on Thursday. The accused received prison sentences ranging from two years suspended to eight years. They are said to have brought more than a ton of cocaine to Germany or smuggled it out in luxury cars in different ways.

Originally, the former reality actor in the TV show "Goodbye Germany", Jürgen Albers, was also in the process. But the process was separated due to health problems of the former Mallorca emigrant and is still ongoing.

In almost all judgments handed out on Thursday, the court took into account that the accused - two men and two women between the ages of 32 and 44 - had confessed to their crime. The court ordered the confiscation of 174,000 euros from the man sentenced to eight years in prison. 45,250 euros were confiscated from a defendant sentenced to six years in prison.

The verdict in the trial against Albers is not expected until next year. At the beginning of the proceedings, his lawyer said his client was willing to cooperate with the court, although he denied the allegations made in the indictment. His defense attorneys had repeatedly pointed out his poor health. The 60-year-old initially came to court in a wheelchair. The presumption of innocence applies to the accused until the final conclusion of the proceedings.
