North Rhine-Westphalia: column of smoke over Wuppertal daycare: building caught fire

Wuppertal (dpa / lnw) - A fire broke out on Friday in a building in Wuppertal, which also houses a daycare center. One person was injured, the police said on request. The daycare was evacuated. Almost 60 children were brought to safety unharmed, added a fire department spokesman. A bus has been made available for this purpose.

According to initial findings, roof work was carried out on the building. Styrofoam is said to have caught fire. The fire brigade confirmed information from the "Westdeutsche Zeitung" that the injured person was a worker who tried to extinguish the fire.

In the meantime, the fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire. It was limited to the roof area. A column of dark smoke had formed over the scene of the fire. The roadblocks caused traffic delays. As a precaution, the electricity was switched off in the daycare center.
