North Rhine-Westphalia was thus also on Saturday above the national average, which the RKI stated at 260.0. In NRW, 10,246 confirmed new infections and 46 deaths related to the corona virus were added within 24 hours.
However, the information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values. In addition, the RKI pointed out on Saturday that the situation after the Christmas holidays and the turn of the year could not be assessed epidemiologically in the same way as in the rest of the year.
