North Rhine-Westphalia: Cyber alarm with the Greens: Metz hopes for clarification

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - After a suspected cyber attack in the Düsseldorf state parliament, the affected Green MP Martin Metz relies on the experts from the investigative authorities: "I hope that the ongoing investigations will clarify what exactly happened and how it happened could," said Metz of the German Press Agency.

At the end of September, the state parliament had identified a first "critical attempt at connection". The protective device ("firewall") of the state parliament had prevented the attack. When the incident was investigated, another case surfaced a few days later - which led to Metz's laptop. It is still unclear whether the first attack also applied to Metz.

"As we know, there is a risk of IT security incidents," says Metz. Nevertheless, he was "naturally surprised" when the state parliament administration contacted him. The laptop belongs to the state parliament and was made available to Metz. The computer has now been handed over to the police, and the state parliament administration, in coordination with Metz, has filed a criminal complaint. The central and contact point for cybercrime (ZAC) of the Cologne public prosecutor's office is investigating.
