North Rhine-Westphalia: Deadly attack at CSD is an issue in the internal committee

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The deadly attack on Christopher Street Day in Münster will be a topic in the state parliament's interior committee on Thursday (1.30 p.m.). The SPD parliamentary group has requested a current quarter hour. According to the public prosecutor's office, a 25-year-old had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury to the back of his head. A 20-year-old is said to have suddenly hit him with his fist.

The 20-year-old is in custody on suspicion of causing bodily harm resulting in death. At the CSD event on August 27, the man is said to have initially insulted and threatened two women, including queer hostility. When the 25-year-old asked him not to do that, the 20-year-old is said to have hit his fist at least once.

The victim is a trans man. Trans people are people who do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. The act had caused nationwide consternation.

Among other things, the SPD parliamentary group wants to know what information there is about the alleged perpetrator and his motive. In addition, the parliamentary group asks in its application for the current quarter hour: "What measures is the state government taking to combat homophobic and transphobic violence?"
