North Rhine-Westphalia: Defense Minister opens Bundeswehr Day

Because of Corona, the Bundeswehr was not able to offer an open day for two years. Now it's that time again. Visitors from Berlin and the Puma infantry fighting vehicle also come to the Münsterland.

Warendorf (dpa / lnw) - Federal Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) opens the day of the Bundeswehr and the German reservist championships on Saturday (11.15 a.m.). The host of the first event of this kind after a two-year Corona break is Warendorf in Münsterland. At the open day, citizens can look behind the scenes and learn about equipment, skills and the people in uniform or civilians in the force. "Under the impression of the Russian attack on Ukraine," as the Bundeswehr emphasizes.

In Warendorf, for example, the Bundeswehr is showing the Puma infantry fighting vehicle, divers in action, service dogs, robotics and a historic air defense system. The Special Forces Command (KSK) is also present in Warendorf, as are military police vehicles.

The German Reservist Championship is a nationwide performance comparison of teams from all units. Basic skills, fitness and military knowledge are assessed every two years.
