North Rhine-Westphalia: Deutsche Bahn NRW: Bicycle transport not guaranteed

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Deutsche Bahn has once again pointed out that it cannot be guaranteed that bicycles will be taken on regional transport on the Pentecost weekend. Due to the increased number of passengers, there could be an exceptionally high load on the regional train lines, Deutsche Bahn NRW wrote on Twitter on Saturday. In some cases, the carriage of bicycles cannot be guaranteed. Long delays are possible.

The transport associations in North Rhine-Westphalia had previously stated that, because of the presumably large number of travelers, it was generally not advisable to take bicycles, especially on the Pentecost weekend. According to a joint announcement by the NRW transport company on Friday, Deutsche Bahn NRW is also deploying 30 bicycle controllers to look after travelers with bicycles at train stations.

According to its own statements, the railway industry has armed itself with more wagons and staff for travel on the long Pentecost weekend. It is to be expected that many day-trippers will use the new 9-euro ticket to make their way to tourist destinations, according to the Rhineland and Westphalia-Lippe (NVR and NWL) local transport services and the Rhine-Ruhr transport association (VRR). On central routes, the trains “are traveling with the maximum possible number of seats”.

This affects, among other things, the RE1 and RE6 (Hamm-Essen-Cologne), RE13 (Düsseldorf-Venlo) or RE48 (Wuppertal-Bonn) lines. Nevertheless, it will certainly be full on certain trains and at some stations.
