North Rhine-Westphalia: Dismembered body of murdered tailor discovered

A horrible murder case in Moers has been making headlines for weeks. A 56-year-old tailor went missing in September. His dismembered body has now been discovered.

Moers (dpa / lnw) - sniffer dogs discovered the dismembered body of the tailor who was murdered in Moers. The police said on Friday that she was buried in a wooded area in Moers. An autopsy on Friday provided certainty that it was the remains of the 56-year-old.

Because of the crime against the man, his son (20) and an acquaintance of the son (48) are already in custody on suspicion of murder. However, the homicide commission does not rule out the possibility that there are other accomplices or helpers in the crime.

Various clues had put the forest in the investigators' sights. Finally, corpse dogs would have struck when searching the site on Thursday.

When the body was recovered, it turned out that it had been divided into six pieces, said a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office in Moers. The body parts were all buried in one place. The body is complete. The autopsy to clarify the cause of death continued on Friday.

On September 12, 2022, the 56-year-old returned to Germany from a holiday in Turkey. However, friends and family could not reach him. Initially, the authorities assumed that the person was missing.

The police looked for the man with mug shots and calls for witnesses - without success. Düsseldorf and Switzerland were also mentioned as possible places to stay. At the beginning of October his apartment in Moers caught fire.

Investigators believe it was set on fire to cover up the crime. The apartment is believed to be the crime scene. Despite the fire, traces of blood could be secured on site. Body-sniffing dogs had also struck there.

Last Monday, the tailor's son and his alleged accomplice were arrested. Four apartments and a shop were searched, and cars, data carriers and mobile phones were seized.

The urgent suspicion against the son and the 48-year-old arises from witness statements, the evaluation of traces in the victim's apartment and other investigations, it said. The 56-year-old divorced father of two had his tailoring shop in Moers in the same building where his apartment is located.

After his disappearance, a sign hung in his shop saying he was in Switzerland. The police assume that the sign was not hung there by the 56-year-old. Weeks ago, another piece of forest in Moers had already been searched with cadaver dogs. The investigation into the motive for the murder was ongoing, it said.
