North Rhine-Westphalia: dog in a hot car: the owner wanted to "just go shopping"

Euskirchen (dpa / lnw) - A small dog sat panting in the driver's seat of a car when it was freed in Euskirchen on Tuesday evening. An attentive witness informed the police. According to the police on Wednesday, the dog stayed in a completely closed car in the blazing sun on the hottest day of the year so far. The car was parked in a parking lot at the train station. When the police arrived, the outside temperature was 36 degrees. Firefighters opened a vehicle window and freed the dog. "The dog, who appeared weak (slightly staggering), was immediately given a container with drinking water, from which he helped himself copiously," the police said.

Immediately afterwards, the 34-year-old keeper appeared. When asked why she left her pet in the hot car, she said she "just wanted to go shopping" and forgot the leash at home. The woman was charged with violating the Animal Welfare Act.
