North Rhine-Westphalia: doused partner with petrol: process in Bonn

Bonn (dpa / lnw) - A 54-year-old from Morsbach in Oberberg is on trial in Bonn on Thursday (9:00 a.m.) for attempting to set his partner on fire with petrol. The man is said to have watched his ex-girlfriend on her front door shortly after Christmas 2021. According to the indictment, he doused the 44-year-old with petrol from a canister he had brought with him. Then he tried to set it on fire, first with a lighter and then with a match. However, the woman managed to escape, she saved herself to neighbors, where she called the police. Then the accused is said to have smashed the living room window of their house with a stone and poured out petrol there and set it on fire. The four foster children of the 44-year-olds stayed in the house. The alerted fire brigade managed to extinguish the fire quickly. The four children - aged 4 to 17 - were rescued unharmed.

The charges are attempted murder and aggravated arson. Six days of negotiations are scheduled for the process.
