North Rhine-Westphalia: Driver races to escape from the police in the house wall

Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - A house in danger of collapsing, three demolished cars and one seriously injured: This is the balance sheet of a 24-year-old driver's attempt to escape from the police in Krefeld. The man ignored the stop signals of a patrol car on Wednesday night and fled at excessive speed, the police said. Before that he drove in serpentines.

The police followed the car through several red lights and briefly lost sight of it. A few moments later they rediscovered him in a field of debris: the driver had left the road and his car crashed into the facade of a kiosk.

From there, the car was thrown across the street, damaged two parked cars and stopped. When the driver tried to get out through the passenger door, he was handcuffed.

The 24-year-old did not have a driver's license and was under the influence of alcohol and presumably illegal drugs. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The building in which the kiosk is located has been classified as in danger of collapsing and has been secured.
