North Rhine-Westphalia: drivers fall from the bridge: only slightly injured

Würselen (dpa / lnw) - A 59-year-old driver drove early Monday morning on the A44 near Würselen onto a motorway bridge that had already been torn down in the middle and fell down. The man was only slightly injured. His car flew a good 25 meters, overturned in the air and landed on the roof a good five meters lower, according to a police statement. She believes someone removed barricades and diversion signs in the direction of the replacement bridge, which traffic is being routed over.

"He was really lucky. It could have ended very differently," said a police spokesman. The driver was traveling fast when he drove over the edge. The motorway bridge at the Broich Werden junction had been dismantled. Traffic is currently being routed over two replacement bridges to the left and right of the original bridge. The police are looking for witnesses who saw the suspicious before the accident.
