Mönchengladbach (dpa / lnw) - Drugs of all kinds on order and delivery by parcel: After months of work, the police in Mönchengladbach identified a gang of suspected drug dealers. The five men, aged between 17 and 37, are said to have started a booming business selling narcotics online via social media, police and prosecutors said on Wednesday.

Over a period of at least seven months, they are said to have mailed kilos of narcotics to Germany and neighboring countries. Of the five suspects initially arrested, three men aged 24, 31 and 37 are in custody. Access was on Tuesday. The investigators reported that a man tried to flee by car during the operation. He drove towards a police officer, who shot the tire and prevented the attempt to escape. Then the man tried to climb on foot.

During the investigation, six apartments in the Viersen area were examined. Several kilograms of drugs of all kinds were found: marijuana, hashish, amphetamine, thousands of ecstasy pills as well as cocaine and drugs containing opiates. Weapons and a five-figure sum of cash were also confiscated.
