North Rhine-Westphalia: drunk cyclist drives through the A1 tunnel

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - A drunk cyclist was in a tunnel on Autobahn 1 near Cologne early on Sunday morning - and this was against the direction of travel. A driver saw the man cycling in the left lane around 4 a.m. and alerted the police. When the patrol car that arrived shortly afterwards wanted to drive onto the motorway, the 22-year-old came towards them in the exit. The police stopped the young man and took him to the police station.

A breath alcohol test revealed a value of 1.8 per mille, according to the police. The cyclist himself was shocked by his odyssey and could not explain how he got onto the A1 on his way home from a party. Cycling is prohibited on highways.
