North Rhine-Westphalia: Drunken firefighter with vehicle on the way: accident

Soest (dpa / lnw) - A drunk firefighter caused an accident with a fire engine in Erwitte in the Soest district and fled. Previously, he had driven through a housing estate under blue lights and a siren – but there had not been an operation there, as the police announced on Monday. The 25-year-old is a member of the voluntary fire brigade and thus had access to the emergency vehicles in the fire station. There he got behind the wheel of the fire engine early Monday morning and started his joyride. According to a spokesman, he was not alone. However, it was not initially disclosed who the second person was.

The firefighter hit a parked car and damaged it. Then he drove back towards the station. He was caught a little later. It turned out that the 25-year-old was under the influence of alcohol. According to the announcement, he did not have the driver's license required to use the fire engine.
