North Rhine-Westphalia: DWD expects another storm in NRW: tornadoes possible

Essen (dpa / lnw) - The week in North Rhine-Westphalia starts with new thunderstorms. From Monday noon, the German Weather Service (DWD) expects more heavy rain, gusts of wind and hail. There is also still a low risk of tornadoes. As on Friday, the DWD could again issue severe weather warnings for various districts at noon, said a meteorologist

The thunderstorms are expected to first reach the south-west and west of NRW between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. and then move further north-east. In the southwest of the country in particular, the probability of locally severe thunderstorms with severe weather potential and sometimes heavy rain and severe gusts of wind is high. Even a small tornado risk cannot be ruled out. "The further south you go in North Rhine-Westphalia, the greater the danger," said the meteorologist. "Unfortunately, we are not able to predict tornadoes."

According to DWD information, the weather should calm down again in the later evening hours and on Tuesday night. Accordingly, it will initially remain cloudy and locally showery. In the course of the day it will only be cloudy with occasional showers. The temperatures reach values between 17 and 21 degrees and around 15 degrees in the higher mountains. Wednesday night is expected to be rain-free.
