North Rhine-Westphalia: end of the tank discount: fuel prices rise significantly

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The reduction in the energy tax on fuels, which was lifted at midnight, is clearly noticeable at petrol stations in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to an initial sample by the ADAC at petrol stations in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Essen on Thursday, the prices for a liter of Super E10 rose by 30 to 35 cents in some cases. A spokesman for ADAC North Rhine said on Thursday that up to 2.26 euros had been charged for the fuel. In the case of diesel, an increase of 8 to 18 cents per liter was found, with liter prices of up to 2.17 euros.

In some cases, fuel prices had already risen significantly before the end of the tank discount. In the course of Thursday morning, the prices then fell slightly again in some cases. With the so-called tank discount, the federal government had reduced the energy tax for three months to the minimum permitted by the EU. Mathematically, the price of the Super E10 could increase by 35 cents and that of diesel by 17 cents as a result of the repeal.

ADAC strongly advised consumers to compare prices. "The price development is very dynamic," said an ADAC spokesman.
