North Rhine-Westphalia: Energy saving campaign gives tenants in NRW simple tips

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - A campaign entitled "Stop the heating cost hammer" is intended to encourage tenants in North Rhine-Westphalia to save energy. The appeal will be made public via social media, brochures and posters in the hallways, as the NRW Ministry of Construction announced on Monday in Düsseldorf.

Minister Ina Scharrenbach explained that some citizens already have to bear significant price increases. "More will be added in the foreseeable future." Currently, the consumption of heating energy is rather low, "but the cooler months are coming and that's why we are giving simple tips for saving energy with the joint campaign".

For example, people are advised to heat less, not to cover the radiators and to turn the heating down at night. To ventilate, you should open the window fully and not in the tilted position. Electricity costs could be saved, for example, by a slightly higher refrigerator temperature of seven degrees in the upper compartment. You can also save money by using Eco programs on dishwashers and washing machines. Instead of using a tumble dryer, let your clothes air dry.

The campaign is jointly managed by the Ministry of Building, the Consumer Advice Center of North Rhine-Westphalia, the European Training Center for the Housing and Real Estate Industry and the Rhineland-Westphalia Association of Housing and Real Estate Businesses.
