The man's escape ended with an accident at the exit of the Sonsbeck junction on Wednesday evening, as the Düsseldorf police announced on Thursday. There the driver lost control of the apparently stolen vehicle during a daring maneuver and collided with a tree. The driver then managed to escape on foot – he disappeared into an adjacent wooded area. The search, also with a police helicopter, was unsuccessful.

The vehicle, coming from the direction of the Netherlands, had previously been noticed by a civil patrol in the area of ​​the Goch border crossing. When checking the number plates, it turned out that they actually belonged to a truck trailer. Police overtook the suspect car and signaled the driver to stop, it said. This one sped off.

According to the current state of investigation, the car was stolen in the Netherlands, according to the police. The investigations continued.
