North Rhine-Westphalia: ex-employee of the immigration office convicted

Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - Because he gave his drug dealer a residence permit, a former employee of the Krefeld immigration office has been convicted of corruption. The Krefeld district court found the 26-year-old guilty on Monday of taking advantage and buying drugs and imposed eight months' probation on him.

According to the indictment, he accepted 30 grams of marijuana two years ago in exchange for a residence permit. However, the judge did not see this as a bribe, as accused, but as an advantage.

The head of a drug gang is said to have benefited from the residence permit. Because he was already being monitored by investigators at the time, the clerk at the immigration office was also targeted by the police.

It was noticed that the 26-year-old was a regular drug buyer. He admitted to court that he had bought 120 drugs, but denied corruption in office. Although he issued his dealer a residence permit, he did not receive any concrete consideration in return.
