North Rhine-Westphalia: Ex-prisoner wants to ride a stolen bike to prison

Bedburg (dpa / lnw) - Shortly after his release from prison, a 31-year-old in Bedburg (Rhein-Erft district) wanted to steal a bicycle in order to pick up belongings from his cell. Civilian officials became aware of the man on Thursday when he was tampering with a bicycle lock with a tool. The police officers arrested the man and found his release papers from the prison, which were only a few hours old.

The 31-year-old explained that he only wanted to borrow the women's bike to ride it to the prison again. There he finally had to pick up some personal belongings. It was initially unclear whether he was threatened with new imprisonment for the attempted theft, the police said on Friday.
