North Rhine-Westphalia: Explosive device with a swastika discovered on a burning car

Mönchengladbach (dpa / lnw) - A witness discovered an explosive device next to a burning car in Mönchengladbach, on which a swastika was emblazoned. The state security have started the investigation, the police said on Tuesday.

The witness informed the owner of the car on Monday night and put out the fire together with her. The explosive device was located on the right front wheel of the car.

According to explosives experts, it was a self-made incendiary or explosive device. Apparently someone tried in vain to ignite it, which would probably have caused the car to burst into flames.

The fire that the witness had noticed may also have been set. According to the information, there are no indications as to why the owner of the car could have become the target of a right-wing extremist attack.
