North Rhine-Westphalia: Family is said to have abused wheelchair users

Bonn (dpa / lnw) - After the alleged mistreatment of a neighbor who is dependent on a wheelchair, the trial against a family has begun before the Bonn district court. The public prosecutor accused the five women and men aged 29 to 44, among other things, of serious deprivation of liberty and dangerous bodily harm. The defendants did not provide any information at the start of the trial on Tuesday.

According to the public prosecutor's office, a 29-year-old, his sister and her husband are said to have held the 54-year-old against his will after a hospital stay in their apartment in Siegburg. He was tortured and humiliated. The 29-year-old - the alleged main culprit - is said to have withdrawn around 25,000 euros from the man's account and used it to pay for orders in a mail order company. He transferred the refunded money for returned goods to his account. Two of the defendants are accused of not intervening when the wheelchair user was being abused.

Further attempts to withdraw 35,000 euros failed. A bank employee is said to have noticed the movements on the account, so he informed the police.
