Coach Thomas Reis' team lost 1:2 (0:1) to the twelfth-placed team in the 3rd division on Tuesday in Gelsenkirchen. In the game, Reis gave his supplementary players match practice. The eleven professional footballers in the starting eleven did not play from the start in the 0-0 draw against VfL Wolfsburg last Friday.
Thomas Ouwejan scored the Schalke goal in the 70th minute with a penalty kick. Nicolás Sessa (21st) and Stijn Meijer (86th) scored for Verl.
