North Rhine-Westphalia: Fire hazard: Krefeld cancels fireworks at the Uerdinger fair

Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - There will be no fireworks at the end of the Uerdinger fair on Tuesday evening. Due to the current drought, the city of Krefeld has canceled the traditional high-altitude fireworks in coordination with the Duisburg environmental agency. According to forecasts, a “grassland fire index level 4”, i.e. the second highest level, is expected in the coming week, the city announced on Sunday. It was too dangerous and "not responsible" to ignite the fireworks from the opposite side of the Rhine in Duisburg. The Uerdingen fair on the market square started on Saturday and ends this Tuesday.
