North Rhine-Westphalia: fire in the clinic room: two seriously injured patients

Essen (dpa / lnw) - Two patients were seriously injured in a fire in a hospital in Essen. A station had to be evacuated on Friday night with a total of twelve people, according to the fire department. A bed in a patient's room on the fourth floor of the building was engulfed in flames. The nursing staff had rescued the two 76 and 98-year-old residents from the burning room and prevented the flames from spreading with fire extinguishers.

The station was unusable after the incident. The two seriously injured were taken to the hospital's intensive care unit. The other patients, who remained unharmed, were also transferred within the hospital. The emergency services then extinguished and used high-performance fans against the smoke. The cause of fire was unclear for the moment.
