North Rhine-Westphalia: Firearms crime in NRW declining

Dusseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In North Rhine-Westphalia, criminals are shot less often. The NRW Ministry of the Interior informed the state parliament on Tuesday, citing the situation report on "weapons crime" from the Federal Criminal Police Office.

According to this, 1194 cases of shooting were registered last year, in 2019 there were 1613. This corresponds to a decrease of 35 percent. Guns were threatened 1,371 times (2019: 1,422 times). This corresponds to a decline of 3.7 percent in the same period.

The numbers can be found in a report on the shots in Oberhausen, in which three people were injured at the end of October. According to the report, the act has neither a clan background nor any connection to organized crime. It was about a dispute over 30,000 euros from the joint operation of a snack bar. The suspected shooter, a 51-year-old, is still being searched for.
