North Rhine-Westphalia: First small winter sports weekend in Sauerland

There are only two slopes at first - but they are enough for the first small winter sports weekend in the Sauerland. The ski lift carousel in Winterberg starts the season. Business really gets going around Christmas.

Winterberg (dpa/lnw) - In Winterberg, skiers and snowboarders can start the season on the first slopes this weekend. The ski area announced that two of the 34 runs were so well prepared with the help of snow cannons that the lifts could start operating. The first winter sports enthusiasts were already on the slopes on Friday, but the lift association is only expecting a larger number of visitors at the weekend. The toboggan lift at the Ruhrquelle is also scheduled to run for the first time on Saturday.

As many of the lifts in the Sauerland as possible should then be running until the important Christmas business. However, a few cold nights would still be needed for the snow cannons to work.

The ski lift carousel in Winterberg includes 34 snow-covered runs with a length of 27.5 kilometers. It is the largest ski area in the Sauerland.
