North Rhine-Westphalia: Green Party leader for coalition negotiations with the CDU

Essen (dpa / lnw) - The state leader of the Greens in North Rhine-Westphalia has campaigned for coalition negotiations with the CDU in her party. "What now lies ahead of us as an opportunity is that we shake hands with a CDU over a bridge and find cross-camp solutions," said Mona Neubaur on Sunday at a state party conference in Essen.

"We live in times in which there is a simultaneity of crises, the consequences of the corona pandemic, the Ukraine war, the climate crisis." These are not the sunniest conditions for assuming responsibility. "We are ready to take on this responsibility and to be honest, we are all really up for it," continued Neubaur.

The CDU and the Greens had agreed on key points for a possible coalition on Friday evening. At the end of their four-day exploratory talks, delegations from both parties agreed on a twelve-page result paper. On Sunday, the top bodies of the two parties wanted to decide whether to start coalition negotiations.
