North Rhine-Westphalia: Greens warn RWE: "Don't create facts"

Dusseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The new Green faction leader has warned the energy company RWE against creating facts in the lignite mining areas. On the question of the village of Lützerath, which is threatened by mining, "political clarity" is being sought before the clearing season begins in October, said the new parliamentary group leader Wibke Brems on Monday in Düsseldorf.

The expectation of RWE is that "no facts will be created" during this time. "What we have observed over and over again in recent years must not happen again," said Brems. Last week, the Greens parliamentary group in the state parliament elected a dual leadership with Verena Schäffer and Wibke Brems, who presented themselves on Monday.

Schäffer announced that the deadly police operation in Dortmund would have to be included in the assessment of the tasers. There the taser had not had the desired effect and a police officer finally fired several shots at a 16-year-old.

It was agreed in the coalition agreement not to buy any new tasers for the time being and to check the effects of the devices purchased so far. The incident in Dortmund will "have to be included in the evaluation".

The reactions to the operation showed: "There is a loss of trust in the police, which we have to take very seriously," said Schäffer. But you have full confidence in the investigations of the public prosecutor. They would also have to clarify why the officials' body cameras were not switched on.

In the coalition agreement, it was also agreed to set up the position of an independent police officer in the state parliament - as a contact for citizens and officials.
