North Rhine-Westphalia: hit and run with a fence on the hood

Paderborn (dpa / lnw) - A drunk young driver in Paderborn is said to have fled after an accident with a fence element on the hood. First of all, the man is said to have damaged another vehicle while reversing on Wednesday evening, the police said on Thursday. Witnesses described the fugitive driver very well and noted the license plate number. The search for the suspected drunk driver was initially unsuccessful.

About an hour later, other witnesses reported via an emergency call that they had observed a car with a fence element on the hood at Lippesee in Paderborn. Sparks could be seen because the heavily damaged car or the fence part "scratched" over the road. After it fell to the ground during a brief stop, the journey continued on the B64 in the direction of Delbrück.

Another witness reported that a car with strong signs of an accident had been parked at a gas station. The officers managed to determine the whereabouts of the suspected driver. The 27-year-old had to give a blood sample at the station. The driver's license and the demolished car were seized. The man is being investigated for hit-and-run and drunk driving. It was initially unclear where the fence element actually came from.
