The Cologne Carnival festival committee wanted to give the city a gift for the 200th anniversary of the carnival, it said. "In the anniversary year, we want all of Cologne's residents and, of course, all visitors to the city to share in the joy of the anniversary of the organized carnival," said Festival Committee President Christoph Kuckelkorn.
