North Rhine-Westphalia: In a hurry to the prom: stopover police control

Brakel/Höxter (dpa/lnw) - A festively dressed family was stopped by a police check on their frantic journey to a prom near Höxter. The 56-year-old driver, his wife and daughter were flashed at 142 kilometers per hour on the way to the celebration in Brakel, as the police in the Höxter district reported on Monday. Only 100 kilometers per hour were allowed on the B64 outside of the built-up area.

It was initially unclear whether the family made it to the daughter's prom on time despite the check. In any case, the car was spotted in the school parking lot on Friday evening, said a police spokesman.

It was pure coincidence that the family rushed into the speed control. Extensive checks had been planned at different points on the B64 for a long time. A total of more than 50 road users, some with excessive speeds, were noticed. It was still uncertain on Monday whether the high school graduate's father would have to temporarily give up his driver's license.
