North Rhine-Westphalia: incident in a patrol car: investigations against police officers

Bielefeld (dpa / lnw) - After an incident in a patrol car of the Bielefeld police, the public prosecutor's office has initiated criminal proceedings against an officer on suspicion of bodily harm. According to the Bielefeld police on Friday, the investigation should be carried out by the police in Münster for reasons of neutrality. The "Westfalen-Blatt" had previously reported on the incident in the patrol car.

As the driver, the police officer is said to have unfastened the passenger's seat belt and then slammed on the brakes. The policewoman was thrown forward and is said to have hit the sun visor or the glove compartment. A doctor confirmed the suspicion of a concussion. Reason for the maneuver: The colleague is said to have worked intensively with her cell phone. Despite repeated requests to put away the beeping phone, she is said to have ignored this.

According to the Bielefeld police, the driver of the patrol car was transferred internally to another position. "Disciplinary investigations depend on the outcome of the criminal proceedings," said spokeswoman Sonja Rehmert of the dpa. Offers of help were made to the injured police officer.
