Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - North Rhine-Westphalia's consumers have to dig even deeper into their pockets to pay for everyday costs. The State Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday that inflation was 7.8 percent in July, up 0.3 points from June. In May, the figure was even higher at 8.1 percent. If you compare the prices from July and June this year, everyday life has increased by 1.1 percent.
Food was 14.7 percent more expensive in July than a year ago. Edible fats and oils went up by almost half. Dairy products and eggs also became more expensive: they cost a quarter more than a year ago, and prices also rose sharply in the short term - compared to June, this product category cost around 8 percent more. Meat also became more expensive than average.
Energy continues to be a strong driver of inflation. The cost of gas has skyrocketed by two-thirds within a year. Electricity became almost a third more expensive.
